Short Term Rental Information

Tobyhanna Township approved a short-term rental ordinance in 2022. A revision to the ordinance was adopted in February of 2024 that changed the occupancy limit to 2 per bedroom + 2 and reduced fines for violations to be within state guidelines. Tobyhanna Township recently imposed a cap on the number of short term rentals licenses and due to the uncertainties surrounding license issuance, caution is advised when purchasing in Tobyhanna Township. CSMC 2018-RPL9 Trust has filed a Complaint in Mortgage Foreclosure against Miguel A. Santos, III, and unknown surviving heirs of Miguel Santos regarding the property at 1768 Rolling Hills Drive, Tobyhanna, PA 18466. The foreclosure action will lead to a public sale by the Monroe County Sheriff. Defendants are advised to respond by entering a written appearance with the court to avoid a judgment entered against them. Failure to defend may result in the loss of property or rights. The notice provides information on legal services for those unable to afford a lawyer.

The Coolbaugh Township Board of Supervisors will conduct a public hearing on April 23, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Coolbaugh Township Municipal Building in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania. 

The Tobyhanna Township Zoning Hearing Board will hold a Continued Public Hearing at Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in Pocono Manor, PA on April 16, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. The hearing involves an appeal by Mark and Joan Lippi, Jennifer Beardsley, Dolores Ruppel, Jim Millington, the Stoddartsville Association, and Ray Laytham challenging the enactment of Ordinance No. 580. This ordinance establishes a data center overlay district, permitting data center use, and setting regulations.


Pa. state Rep. Maureen Madden visited the Tobyhanna Millpond #1 Ice Harvest to experience a traditional ice harvest using historical tools dating back to 1918, including using horses to pull the heavy ice cakes into the icehouse. Residents are reminded that burning leaves is prohibited by local and county regulations. 

Leaves must be raked to the road's edge without using bags or rigid containers by 7 a.m. on scheduled pickup dates. 

The Board of Supervisors of Coolbaugh Township will conduct a public meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Coolbaugh Township Municipal Building in Tobyhanna, PA. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and potentially approve an ordinance authorizing a cable franchise agreement between the township and Blue Ridge Cable Technologies, Inc. The Sheriff of Monroe County, Pennsylvania, Nick Cirranello, will conduct a public online auction of real estate on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. through Bid4Assets in Silver Springs, MD. The property, located at 423 Tulip Trail, Tobyhanna, PA 18466, will be sold to the highest bidder. The sale involves a judgment amount of $227,313.24 against unknown heirs and successors of Milo Dzurenda.

The Pocono Mountain Regional Airport is seeking bids for the Acrylic Roof Coating Project at the South Hangar located at 188 Airport Road, Tobyhanna, PA 18466. Bids must be submitted by 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, to Jean Gold at the airport address. Bid documents will be available starting March 23, 2026, with a mandatory Zoom pre-bid meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 10:00 am. The State Board of Nursing has issued a public notice regarding the suspension of Marilouise Pipeling's registered nursing license. The suspension will last for a minimum of three years, with the first year being active and the remaining two years stayed in favor of probation. Marilouise Pipeling, identified with license number RN675648, resides in either Harvey Lake, Luzerne County, or Tobyhanna, Monroe County. This action was taken due to a criminal conviction related to the nursing profession.

A Tobyhanna woman has pleaded guilty to lesser charges in a stabbing case.

On Feb. 5, Colleen Hall, 57, pleaded guilty to the charges of first-degree misdemeanor possession of an instrument of crime and second-degree misdemeanor simple assault. She initially faced first-degree felony charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault, and two second-degree felonies of aggravated assault.

Coolbaugh Township is organizing Community Shred Events on Saturday, April 10, 2026, and Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9am to 2:30pm at the Coolbaugh Township Volunteer Fire Company parking lot.
