Pocono Township is a dynamic and strategically located municipality in central Monroe County, Pennsylvania, serving as a commercial and recreational hub in the Pocono Mountains. With its mix of natural beauty, tourism infrastructure, and growing residential zones, it’s one of the most visible and visited townships in the region.
Pocono Township is often seen as the gateway to the high Poconos, balancing tourism, conservation, and community development. Its proximity to major highways (Routes 611, 715, and I-80) makes it a key transit and economic node, while its natural assets preserve the region’s Appalachian character.
Short-term rentals or Transient Dwelling Units as they are referred to as in Pocono Township are not allowed in R-1 and R-2 zoning areas in Pocono Township. Short term rentals are only allowed in C (Commercial) zones and RD (Recreational District) zones. An initial change of use permit under zoning and an annual license is required for a Transient Dwelling Unit Permit (STR) See rules and regulations as well as permit application below.

"A recent post about Pocono Township contains misinformation from Maureen Madden that should be clarified.
Pocono Township did not declare itself a “sanctuary city,” and no vote was taken related to immigration enforcement.
First, Pocono Township is a township, not a city.
Second, a “sanctuary city” refers to policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement to protect illegal immigrants from deportation. That is not what was discussed or voted on. And it is not something I support (although I’m sure Madden does).
HENRYVILLE, PA — A 48-year-old man was arrested following a domestic disturbance where children reported their father was threatening to kill their mother.
Galvin Lee Dudley, of Henryville, was taken into custody at approximately 11:33 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2026, after Pocono Township Police Department officers responded to a residence on Fantasy Drive.
Monroe County Control Center dispatched officers after receiving a call in which a child could be heard screaming that their father was trying to kill their mother and that he had a gun.
