"Over the past several months, our region has increasingly been targeted for large-scale data center development.

While final approvals of any development lie with local governments under Pennsylvania law, I believe that legislative action at the state level is also appropriate to protect the interests of our communities and communities across the state facing similar circumstances.

Tarah Probst, who represents part of Monroe County in Pa. House, seeks reelection

STROUDSBURG, Pa. - State Rep. Tarah Probst (HD-189) announced Monday she is running for a third term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Probst represents the 189th Legislative District encompassing eastern Monroe and southern Pike counties.

“I am committed to this Commonwealth and to continuing the good work we have been doing since I took office in January 2023,” Probst said in her Monday announcement.

Pocono Township did not declare itself a “sanctuary city,” and no vote was taken related to immigration enforcement.

First, Pocono Township is a township, not a city.

Second, a “sanctuary city” refers to policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement to protect illegal immigrants from deportation. That is not what was discussed or voted on. And it is not something I support (although I’m sure Madden does).

New mayor appointed for Stroudsburg

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A borough in Monroe County finally has a new mayor. The vacant position in Stroudsburg has now been filled by Ellen Curry.

The Democrat was appointed Tuesday night at a borough council meeting.

Former Mayor Michael Moreno stepped down earlier this year to take on the position of downtown manager.

Pocono Township Commissioners clash after racism accusation

POCONO TOWNSHIP- MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A heated exchange at a recent council meeting between a board member and commissioner has bubbled up into a controversy in Pocono Township.

A local business owner and township board member announced he is pulling funding for township events after commissioner Charles Keppler called him a racist during a recent meeting. This came after a Facebook post was made by the board member.

Monday, another commissioner formally asked Keppler to step down.

Man wanted after alleged assaults on women in Monroe County

Pennsylvania State Police obtained an arrest warrant for a man accused of beating a woman until she “blacked out” outside a store in Monroe County.

The suspect, 36-year-old Donovan S. Mack, has several open criminal cases against him, according to his public court summary. These include an alleged assault last October at a fast food restaurant that left a woman bleeding from the mouth.
