Data centers are becoming an increasingly visible part of local development, yet many community leaders and residents lack clear, practical information about how these facilities operate and what they require to function. This session offers a grounded, non-technical introduction to data centers, focusing on the issues communities are most often asked to evaluate, including land use and zoning, water demand and discharge, energy needs, infrastructure upgrades, and potential economic impacts. By replacing speculation and marketing claims with clear, fact-based context, the program equips participants with a framework for asking informed questions, interpreting developer proposals, and weighing opportunities and trade-offs. Designed for local elected officials, planning commissions, economic development professionals, business and nonprofit leaders, and engaged residents, the session supports transparent, evidence-driven decision-making that reflects local priorities and long-term considerations.
This event is being offered at no charge to participants.
