East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania recognized the winners for the 2026 Boddie Scholarship, Martin Luther King Jr. awards, and the Julianna and Wayne Bolt Art Contest. The recipients were honored at the 29th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast on January 19. Boddie Scholarship Recipients The Mary Gertrude Smith Boddie Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to undergraduate students who demonstrate a commitment to social justice through community and/or university service. In 1904, Ms. Boddie was the first African American student to graduate from what was then known as East Stroudsburg State Normal School, which ultimately became East Stroudsburg University in 1983.

A drug deal near a Monroe County housing development on Thursday evening led to a shooting that left one man injured, state police said.Jahfari Michael Kamdar, 20, of East Stroudsburg, is facing felony charges of attempted homicide, felony aggravated assault, felony robbery, felony firearms not to be carried without a license, and felony criminal use of a communications facility.Kamdar was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Paul J. Gasper, who denied bail. He was then taken to the Monroe County Prison. Court records did not immediately list any attorney information for Kamdar.

A total of 1,965 students have been named to the Dean’s List at East Stroudsburg University for the Fall 2025 semester of the 2025-2026 academic year, as announced by Margaret Ball D.M.A., the university’s provost and vice president for academic affairs. Students eligible for the Dean’s List must have achieved a 3.50 grade point average (GPA) or higher and be enrolled full-time. For reference, the grade “B” equates to 3 quality points per credit, while an “A” earns 4 quality points per credit. Dr. Ball expressed her pride in the achievement, saying, “It is quite rewarding to see so many students on the list this semester. On Saturday, January 10, Stroudsburg Wrestling took a trip over the bridge to East Stroudsburg South to take them on in a dual meet at their home. Bouncing back from last year’s loss, Stroudsburg ran away with the win in convincing fashion 52-19. Opening the meet, the team’s 107-127 pounders  pinned each of their opponents, allowing the Mountaineers to jump to a 24-0 start. Chase Fetherman, ’27, Stroudsburg’s 127 pounder pinned his opponent in 42 seconds. South would take a match to bring the score to 24-6, but Stroudsburg fired back, seeing the team’s 139lb Noah Sipple, ’29, and 145lb Colton Christian, ’27 pin their opponents. Leonard DiMaria, ’27, and Zion Essington, ’26, pinned both their opponents, while Giovanni Alvarez, ’27, won by major decision 13-2.

C-Town is a chain of independently owned grocery stores popular in the New York City metro area and other major parts of the Northeast. They are known for selling Hispanic and Caribbean products. Despite the stores being around for almost 50 years, Stroudsburg received its first location in 2025. It is located in the Eagle Valley Court Shopping Center in East Stroudsburg. Stroudsburg has seen an increase in Hispanic-owned businesses in the past couple of years, with some older trailblazers. Businesses like El Merengue Restaurant,  JB Hair Studio, Dominican Salon, and Urbanchic Salon are Hispanic-owned and centered. The store was warmly welcomed upon its arrival. The store opened on December 12, 2025, offering products like recao or culantro, Colombiana Sodas, and other imported products. Shoppers were pleased to find items that were not offered by other grocery stores.
