Following the events of World War II, the Asian nation of Japan changed its military use drastically. The country vowed never to use its military for offensive maneuvers and went into active pacifism.
In 2025 and 2026, this has changed with rising tensions between China and Taiwan, which current Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, believes serves as a threat to the island’s national security.
China and Taiwan’s decades of geopolitical tension and conflicts have been getting tenser and tenser, coming up in 2026.
China and Taiwan have had disputes over sovereignty. China believes Taiwan should merge with the mainland and unite as one country. Taiwan disagrees with that, wanting to remain an independent nation separate from mainland China.

The Mary Gertrude Smith Boddie Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to undergraduate students who demonstrate a commitment to social justice through community and/or university service. A drug deal near a Monroe County housing development on Thursday evening led to a shooting that left one man injured, state police said.Jahfari Michael Kamdar, 20, of East Stroudsburg, is facing felony charges of attempted homicide, felony aggravated assault, felony robbery, felony firearms not to be carried without a license, and felony criminal use of a communications facility.Kamdar was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Paul J. Gasper, who denied bail. He was then taken to the Monroe County Prison. Court records did not immediately list any attorney information for Kamdar.
East Stroudsburg University Announces Fall 2025 Dean’s List
A total of 1,965 students have been named to the Dean’s List at East Stroudsburg University for the Fall 2025 semester of the 2025-2026 academic year, as announced by Margaret Ball D.M.A., the university’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Students eligible for the Dean’s List must have achieved a 3.50 grade point average (GPA) or higher and be enrolled full-time. For reference, the grade “B” equates to 3 quality points per credit, while an “A” earns 4 quality points per credit.
Dr. Ball expressed her pride in the achievement, saying, “It is quite rewarding to see so many students on the list this semester. Congratulations to each of them on their dedication and fine work.”
