Leaning on Our Community

With the holiday season coming to a close, we enter the most difficult time of the year for non-profits and other community driven organizations. Folks have already donated as they are able throughout the giving season, so it’s common that organizations such as ours see a decrease in community engagement in the following months. That’s why we’re especially grateful to our friends at WFMZ 69 News for coming to visit and showcase our operations and our ongoing need for your generous support! Please enjoy learning from our Co-Directors Janine Tancredi & Susan Downing in this short clip below, and we encourage you to visit the WFMZ 69 News website for the full-length feature video!

New era for Pocono Indian Museum

One family in the Poconos has been keeping Native American history alive for 50 years at the Pocono Indian Museum. Now it's time for the next generation to take over.EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — A step into the halls of the Pocono Indian Museum in Monroe County tells the stories of the Native American people in our region. "They were farmers, they were family people, they lived peacefully with their neighbors, and unfortunately, their lack of understanding of ownership of land caused them to lose the land they called home," said owner and curator, Malcolm Law. The museum on Route 209 near Bushkill has been around for 50 years.

U.S. involvement with Venezuela

The U.S. invaded the Venezuelan capital of Caracas on Jan. 3, 2026. America performed an operation to extract Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Through bombing, air units and special forces, the U.S. took Maduro and his wife at night in less than 24 hours. This operation, however, was not just a day long.  According to the BBC, the U.S. had spies in Venezuela gathering intel on Maduro for months on end.  The two were taken to the states, and Maduro was to go on trial for drug-charges because of his involvement with Venezuelan cartels, and drug-trafficking. In doing this, the U.S. has become further involved in Latin America to a degree similar to the Cold War and Cuba. This means a lot for the political climate internationally.

What Monroe County’s Own Records Tell Us About Youth and Firearms

- Letter to the Editor - Monroe County residents deserve fact-based, unbiased information when children, firearms, and public safety are discussed in official settings. This distinction between fact and assumption matters. When narratives presented or endorsed by county offices suggest that Monroe County is experiencing a crisis involving youth firearm suicides or accidental shootings, those claims should align with the county’s own fatality records. In this case, they do not. When children are referenced in firearm-related discussions, Monroe County families deserve facts—not fear.Monroe County Coroner records obtained through Pennsylvania’s Right-to-Know Law show that firearm-related suicides and accidental shootings primarily involve adults, not children. The records do not show children as the primary population affected by firearm suicides or accidental shootings in Monroe County.

Petition Update: Transparency and Ethics Concerns in Stroudsburg Borough

These concerns include questions about potential conflicts of interest, incompatible offices, revolving-door employment, and compliance with the Pennsylvania Borough Code and the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act.In particular, issues have been raised surrounding the sequence of events involving the Mayor being sworn in, subsequently resigning, and then accepting a paid Borough position, as well as publicly circulated audio that references election-related decision-making. While no conclusions have been made, these circumstances raise legitimate questions that warrant review.Updates will continue to be shared as information becomes available. Continued civic engagement, respectful dialogue, and public participation in Borough meetings remain essential.
