Tobyhanna Township approved a short-term rental ordinance in 2022. A revision to the ordinance was adopted in February of 2024 that changed the occupancy limit to 2 per bedroom + 2 and reduced fines for violations to be within state guidelines. Tobyhanna Township recently imposed a cap on the number of short term rentals licenses and due to the uncertainties surrounding license issuance, caution is advised when purchasing in Tobyhanna Township. A Tobyhanna man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Wilkes University dorm room several years ago was convicted at trial this week of misdemeanor sex offenses.
The jury deliberated for a little less than four hours Tuesday evening before finding Khylen Rasul Shoffner, 28, guilty on misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of an unconscious person, indecent assault without consent, indecent exposure and harassment.
Jurors deadlocked on the most serious charges Shoffner faced, aggravated indecent assault and another felony count of indecent assault.
