Chestnuthill Township passes new ordinance for potential data center proposals

Communities in the Poconos are planning ahead as proposals for data centers continue to pop up across the state. With data center proposals popping up around the state, townships in Monroe County are planning ahead for the future.Officials with Chestnuthill Township recently passed a new zoning ordinance to only allow data centers in the light industrial commercial zones.Officials say they modeled the new ordinance on nearby Jackson Township's plans to limit where a data center could potentially go due to environmental and quality of life concerns. Read the full story here.

Save the Poconos from Industrial Pollution

Stop Senate Bill 939 and protect Pennsylvania's environment!   Sign petition started by Teressa Marcinek: "I'd like to share an issue happening in Covington Township (near Scranton) that could affect not just locals, but the entire Pocono region.Senate Bill 939 would allow digital garbage dumps called data centers to be built in what is currently pristine preserved land in the Poconos. It would mean increased industrial activity in the Pocono region along with nuclear waste, water overuse and contamination, noise pollution, light pollution, and air pollution, jeopardizing our delicate ecosystems and pristine water sources. No lasting jobs will be created."

PennFuture Commends Pocono Municipalities for Preparing for Data Centers

This summer has brought a flurry of activity from municipalities across the Poconos as they adopt new zoning ordinances to prepare for potential data center development. You can learn more about data centers here.
