The Shapiro Administration is moving "full steam ahead" on the Scranton to New York Penn Station (NYP) passenger rail corridor project.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced on Thursday that the project has reached a critical federal milestone, remaining one of only five rail expansions in the nation to reach "Step 2" of the development process, according to the news release.
On Wednesday February 4th, at around 5:09pm, the Stroudsburg Fire Department along with East Stroudsburg Fire was dispatched to the area of 9th Street and Main Street for an odor of natural gas reported by a passerby. Initial crews arrived with an odor present, but no source noted. UGI, PP&L, and Met-Ed were called to the scene to assist, along with Stroud Area Regional Police. It was determined that the area of 9th and Main street should be cordoned off, and traffic was diverted. As the incident evolved, the bounded area grew to roughly one square block.

The psychology department at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania hosted the 54th Biannual Research Forum at the end of the fall 2025 semester.
The Stroudsburg Girls basketball team is working hard and pushing themselves so far this season. So far, they have five wins and 11 losses. The team’s success cannot be measured by wins and losses alone. This year, the girls have been building a strong bond and foundation for the future.
The Lady Mounties started the basketball season with a new coaching staff. The girls’ new head coach is Coach Kelly Williams. With a new coach stepping in, the program experienced a new team culture.

Pennsylvania State Police obtained an arrest warrant for a man accused of beating a woman until she “blacked out” outside a store in Monroe County.
The suspect, 36-year-old Donovan S. Mack, has several open criminal cases against him, according to his public court summary. These include an alleged assault last October at a fast food restaurant that left a woman bleeding from the mouth.
East Stroudsburg University’s Madelon Powers Gallery will present Echoes, an exhibition by sculptor Jonathan Hils, from Wednesday, February 4 – Wednesday, March 4.
