Chase Briscoe wins The Great American Getaway 400

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Sunday, Chase Briscoe was the first to race through the finish line of the much-anticipated Cup Series race, The Great American Getaway 400. Earlier on Sunday, fans were kept from the grandstand as thunderstorms rolled through NEPA, but luckily, Mother Nature decided to let up. How the PTN, 28/22 News NASCAR came to be Drivers took on the Tricky Triangle, looking to get another win, while others were looking to get their first.

How the PTN, 28/22 News NASCAR came to be

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— 28/22's Gianna Galli talked with Pocono Television about how the partnership came to be. She is joined by Chris Barrett from the Pocono Television Network with more on how the partnership with Pocono Raceway and 28/22 News came to be. 28/22’s Alaina Lositio tackles the Tricky Triangle They touched on how much Pocono Raceway means to the area, the Pocono brand, as well as the process on how the agreement ended up on a Chevy NASCAR.

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— 28/22 Sports' Alaina Losito had the chance to drive one of the stock cars here is a look at her attempt at the tricky triangle. It's nicknamed the Tricky Triangle. Pocono Raceway is known to be one of the toughest tracks in all of NASCAR. But what makes this triangle so tricky? Well I decided to test it out for myself. Ahead of race week, I figured the only way to really get a feel for what these drivers experience was to conquer the track myself. 18-year-old Zilisch brings home the win in Xfinity Race Once arriving at the raceway, I suited up and spent hours learning the rules of the road, from tackling each turn, following safety instructions, and mastering what they said was an experience of a lifetime

18-year-old Zilisch brings home the win in Xfinity Race

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— 28/22 Sports was joined by NASCAR driver Kyle Larson as they broke down what happened Saturday at the Xfinity Race. The Xfinity Race just wrapped up Saturday afternoon with Connor Zilisch taking home the victory. It was his first time racing here at Pocono and is only 18-years-old with the crew chief Dale Earnhardt Jr. The race wasn't without its dramatics as Zilisch made a late run passing Jesse Love for the lead and coming up with his second victory of the season. Zilisch stated: "I think a lot of it is just people I've been able you know, been fortunate, to surround myself with. You know I'm nothing without the people who have been behind me, my family, it takes an army to make stuff like this happen. Very grateful to have such a good group around me."

Drug Take Back Weekend kicks off at Pocono Raceway

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Along with the high-speed excitement, race fans also have the chance to help fight the opioid epidemic. It's the Seventh Annual Drug Take Back Weekend at Pocono Raceway. Fans who pass through the main entrance can bring unused or outdated prescription medication to the track to be safely disposed of. How to watch Pocono Raceway NASCAR races Attorney General Dave Sunday tells 28/22 News it's all about keeping drugs off the streets. "Unfortunately, we are in the world where we are dealing with addiction..We're dealing with the opioid epidemic, and unfortunately, what happens is a lot of people are in the throes of addiction, and they'll try to find pills wherever they can get them," Attorney General Sunday stated.

NABC Recycled Rides gifts 2 veterans with refurbished cars

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two local veterans are getting a fresh start this weekend at Pocono Raceway thanks to a national program that puts them behind the wheel of something life-changing. The two vets were gifted completely refurbished cars through the NABC Recycled Rides program. Each car costs about $30,000 and was donated by Geico Insurance. Faulkner Collision Center in Lancaster donated the labor to fix and fully restore the cars. How to watch Pocono Raceway NASCAR races The program works coast to coast, giving away more than 300 cars each year to people in need. "Really, a life-changing event when they receive a vehicle and they're eternally grateful and we're just happy that we can give them a hand," Program Manager Dale Ross told 28/22 News.

NASCAR weekend in full swing at Pocono Raceway

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There was a lot of excitement in Long Pond on Saturday from racers and fans alike. While the coveted Cup Series race is on Sunday, the Xfinity Series race kicked off Saturday afternoon. While the race is now over, the energy in Long Pond was still absolutely electric. It was hard to describe the atmosphere in the infield, and even with the race wrapped up, people here are ready to do it all again tomorrow. 38 drivers lined up Saturday afternoon to take on the Tricky Triangle yet again. The smell of burnt rubber filled the air, and the sound of engines roaring down the straightaways made this spectacle of speed one to remember. While it's hard to imagine what exactly was going through the racers' heads on the track, fans 28/22 News spoke to could hardly contain their excitement as the drivers made their way through the turns.

Xfinity Series underway at Pocono Raceway

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The sight of speeding race cars and the sound of roaring engines are drawing tens of thousands of race fans to the Poconos. It's the Great American Getaway 400 weekend at Pocono Raceway. The Xfinity Series is currently underway at the Pocono Raceway. On Saturday, the qualifiers were held for Sunday's cup series, and a familiar face took his turn on the Tricky Triangle. When talking about Pocono Raceway, one name that comes to mind is Denny Hamlin. Hamlin has the most wins at Pocono with seven. Hamlin did not participate last week in Mexico as he and his wife welcomed the birth of their third child. How to watch Pocono Raceway NASCAR races The week prior, Hamlin won at Michigan, so if he wins on Sunday, he will technically have back-to-back wins.

Truck Series brings first-time winner to Pocono Raceway

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Racing kicked off Friday at Pocono Raceway starting with the Craftsman Truck Series. Alaina Losito is here with with a recap of Friday's race. Coming into the race, all eyes were on the reigning champion Corey Heim. Heim, the favorite for Friday's race, dominated last year. How to watch Pocono Raceway NASCAR races And just a couple weeks ago became the youngest driver to reach 15 career wins. But trouble with his tires later in the race caused Heim to fall behind. With about 15 laps to go, it was too much to overcome. So it was the 23-year-old Layne Riggs, son of former cup series standout, Scott Riggs. Layne led the final 20 laps en route to his win.

Truck Series points leader looks to win at the Triangle again

(WBRE/WYOU)— Race fans worldwide are gathering in Monroe County for this weekend's NASCAR Cup Series at Pocono Raceway. 28/22's Alaina Losito has been at the track all day. The Craftsman Truck Series race here at Pocono Raceway is currently underway. A pretty big crowd here on Friday and all eyes are on last year's winner Corey Heim. He absolutely dominated the race leading most of the laps. His most recent win came in Charlotte where he became the youngest driver ever to reach 15 career Truck Series wins. He seems to excel at this race as he came second to Kyle Busch in 2023. Busch has the most wins here with three and his team with eight. Heim spoke on being back in the Poconos why he loves racing at this track.

Pocono Raceway joins AG for drug take-back weekend

LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's the big race weekend at Pocono Raceway, and it's also a Drug Take Back weekend at the Raceway. Race fans can bring their unused or outdated prescription drugs to the track, where they will be collected and safely destroyed at a later date.   Pennsylvania Attorney General's office and Pocono Raceway officials are teaming up for the drug collection effort. The mission is to help fight the opioid epidemic in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The I-Team's Andy Mehalshick reports live on 28/22 News. It's also a drug take back weekend at Pocono Raceway.
