The new academic year at East Stroudsburg University came with a fresh, updated look inside the Mattioli Recreation Center.
Renovations that began at the close of the spring semester wrapped up prior to the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with ESU Campus Rec and Wellness welcoming new and returning Warriors to a facility that now boasts numerous renovations.
The recreation center’s arena area – spaces for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and soccer – was upgraded to include new floors, paint and ESU branding. Upgrades were also made to the weightlifting and cardio space, including a new floor, carpeting, and paint. The main staircase to the second floor now features the ESU mark and the Way of the Warrior, greeting guests who enter the facility.News

An East Stroudsburg University sport management major by day, Brianna Anderson takes on a whole new personality by night in her job with Minor League Baseball’s Jersey Shore BlueClaws: that of a 6-foot-2, green-haired, bright yellow mascot named Buster.
The High-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, the BlueClaws play at ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakeland, New Jersey, where Buster has been a fixture on warm summer nights since the team debuted in 2001.
A fan favorite, Buster has entertained audiences at every home game the ballpark has hosted – more than 1,400 and counting – and was named Minor League Baseball’s best mascot in 2024. At many of those games, it was Anderson rallying the crowds as Buster.East Stroudsburg University Announces Executive in Residence Program
Dr. Sylvester Williams, dean of East Stroudsburg University’s College of Business and Management, announced today the return of the College’s Executive in Residence Program. ESU’s Executive in Residence for the 2025-26 academic year is Donald Pleau, general manager of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, Pocono.
“This will be the second year for the Executive in Residence program, and we are thrilled to have Don as a member of our college,” said Dr. Williams. “In this role, Don will guest lecture in several courses over the year in addition to mentoring students to show them what is possible in a business career.”Municipal Inspections: You’re Going to Need a Warrant for That

Today the Mount Pocono Borough formally opened the first official trail in the borough with a ribbon cutting! It is located just a short walk away from the Knob overlook.

Madelon Powers Gallery to Present Community Curators
East Stroudsburg University’s Madelon Powers Gallery will present Community Curators from Wednesday, September 10 – Friday, October 10. The exhibit will feature artists who also curate shows at various venues throughout the Pocono Mountains.
Hours for the gallery, located in the university’s Fine and Performing Arts Building, Normal and Marguerite streets, are Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. A reception for the artists will be held on Wednesday, September 10 from 4-6 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibition and reception are open to the public at no cost.Monroe County conducting property reassessment using satellite technology
For a new round of property reassessment in Monroe County, a higher-tech option will help streamline the field assessment process.According to Monroe County Commissioner Chairman John Christy, this year’s county reassessment will look different than the last reassessment in 2019. Christy said the county will use satellite technology to compare results of recent flyovers to those that were done last reassessment. If properties are different, the county will send out people to see what was constructed.“In our last reassessment, we had to go out and visit all of our properties,” said Christy. “We do not have to do that in this one.”Christy said the county is looking to achieve being revenue neutral through reassessment.“Some people go up, some people go down, some stay the same,” said Christy. “It just levels the playing field.”
Miller Weinberg Nature Preserve created in Barrett Township
A pristine and historic 142-acre tract near Mill Creek in Barrett Township has been protected for perpetuity, thanks to an agreement between Warren "Mickey" Miller and Pocono Heritage Land Trust. It is PHLT's latest donated and preserved property, with additional properties in the pipeline. The donation is from the heart, since the land has sentimental value for Miller. Carts packed with the essentials rolled along the sidewalks of East Stroudsburg University as 1,090 first-year and transfer students moved into their new homes away from home on Wednesday and Thursday. A total of 2,690 residential students will be living on campus after move-in wraps up on Saturday.
Like many students weighing what to bring and what to leave behind, Gabriela Pifano, a criminal justice major from Kearny, N.J., showed up to campus with a car-full of must-have belongings, but said there was no shortage of student volunteers to help make the unloading process much easier.
“I was moving things in and out of nowhere 15 people showed up and helped me move all my things to my room,” Pifano said.NASCAR Returns To Pocono Raceway June 12-14 For 2026 Season

LONG POND, Pa. (Aug. 20, 2025) – The NASCAR Cup Series stars will head to the Pocono Mountains next summer as Pocono Raceway plays host to the series for a 53rd consecutive year on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The action-packed June 12-14 tripleheader showcasing the Cup Series also will include the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and ARCA Menards Series on the legendary 2.5-mile “Tricky Triangle.” The weekend will feature a race each day, beginning with the stars of ARCA on Friday, June 12.

30-Year-Old Dies at Music Festival, Investigation Underway
A 30-year-old man has died after attending this year’s Elements music festival in Long Pond, Pennsylvania.A man identified only by his first name, Sagel, reportedly suffered cardiac arrest while in a vehicle exiting the Pocono International Raceway festival grounds on August 11. As of now, the official cause of death has not been released.Meanwhile, on August 13, Elements Festival released a statement addressing Sagel’s passing., “We are deeply saddened to share that on Monday morning, a member of our community passed away after receiving treatment onsite and being transferred to a local hospital,” the music festival wrote. “We are sending our love and condolences to their family and friends.”
