Unrivaled

The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) has a regular season lasting from May to September.

During the offseason, some players can get another opportunity to play in the Unrivaled League. Unrivaled’s season takes place from January to March.

According to The Observer, Unrivaled was founded in 2023 by WNBA Stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.

Unrivaled is a 3-on-3 league, and the goal was to give players a better opportunity to compete in the offseason. The league took a liftoff that was not expected, and now Unrivaled is being talked about all over sports news sources.

“I think any kind of innovation that can bring more attention to the talents in women’s and men’s sports is great!” expresses Mr. Andrew Kurnas, an English teacher.

One of the biggest pros of Unrivaled is that it gives players better pay opportunities. One of the most obvious differences between women’s sports and men’s is the pay.

For the WNBA, the minimum salary is $66 thousand, and the average salary is below $150 thousand dollars. The average salary for men in 2025 is $11.9 million dollars.

Unrivaled has an annual average salary of $220 thousand dollars. That is a significant difference from the WNBA pay.

Unrivaled also includes other competitions and challenges for players, like a 1-on-1 bracket, for which the winner can earn a $200 thousand cash prize.

Recently, WNBA rookie Paige Bueckers won the free-throw challenge and donated the $50 thousand dollar cash prize to the Hopkins Strong Relief Fund, which is a non-profit organization that helps public schools in Hopkins, Minnesota, where Bueckers grew up.

Unrivaled has offered many opportunities for women who want to be more involved in playing during the off-season, better pay, and more opportunities to connect the world with women’s sports.
