Allegiance Retail Services Co-op Board Member and Independent Grocer Recognized for Innovation and Community Leadership

Iselin, NJ (March 5, 2026) – Michael Mignosi, a Foodtown independent grocer and Board Member of Allegiance Retail Services (ARS), has been honored by Shelby Publishing with its 2026 Exceptional Independents Award. The award recognizes outstanding independent retailers who demonstrate innovation, operational excellence, and extraordinary commitment to their communities.

Mignosi was recognized for his forward-thinking retail leadership, early adoption of emerging technologies, and decades of dedicated community service in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. As a respected member of the ARS/Foodtown Board of Directors, Mignosi serves on the Finance, Advertising & Technology, and Ad Planning committees, where his strategic insight benefits more than 140 independent supermarkets across the cooperative.

A solutions-oriented operator, Mignosi is known for embracing innovation that strengthens the independent supermarket model. In 2024, he was among the first ARS members to introduce Caper Carts, smart-cart technology designed to enhance convenience, improve accuracy, and accelerate checkout speed for customers. He has also led early implementation of updated point of sale systems, expanded self-checkout options, and enhanced his store’s online shopping platform to meet evolving consumer expectations.

Beyond retail operations, Mignosi’s leadership extends deeply into his hometown. Since 2007, he has served with the Stroudsburg Fire Department and currently holds the rank of Assistant Chief while also serving as Treasurer and Board Member of the Relief Association. Over the years, he has served as 2nd Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Engineer, reflecting both his dedication and the trust placed in him by fellow firefighters.

Mignosi has also devoted more than 15 years to coaching youth athletics and mentoring students. He currently serves as Freshman Football Coach for the Stroudsburg School District and previously coached middle and elementary school teams. A former School Director and current volunteer Assistant Lighting Designer for school productions, he remains actively involved in fostering confidence, teamwork, and perseverance among local students.

In addition, Mignosi serves as President of the Mountaineer Foundation, a philanthropic organization that raises funds to enhance educational outcomes for students through support from community members, civic groups, and local businesses. His longstanding commitment to mentorship is further reflected in his six years as a Boy Scout leader.

The Exceptional Independents Awards highlight national trends and achievements shaping the future of independent grocery. By honoring leaders like Michael Mignosi, Shelby Publishing continues to spotlight the independent retailers who serve as the backbone of their communities and the industry at large.

This recognition reinforces Allegiance Retail Services’ commitment to supporting forward-thinking independent grocers who combine innovation with deep community engagement across the Northeast.
