Arguably one of the most influential women of this generation, Taylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989.
She fell in love with music at an early age and started her career at 16. However, along with fame and success came misogyny and disadvantages as a woman in the music industry.
From the beginning, even though selling millions of copies and selling out stadiums, she was always doing something wrong.
Swift started out as a Country Singer after growing up in Nashville, Tennessee. She released four albums under the Country category. However, people started to realize that her music started to sound more like Pop music.
She was also looked down upon by the media as having too many relationships, so she tried to focus on her album “1989” on having fun with a style outside of her comfort zone.
After “1989,” she released “Reputation.” The album was darker and edgier than people knew her to be. With ‘Reputation,” Swift finally clapped back at people who criticized her throughout her career.
Swift can’t sit still. She is constantly changing and thinking of different ways to present her music to the world. Through lyrics, styles, and videos, Swift keeps her fans on their toes, which could be a factor in why she has so many.
She is always finding something new to give to her fans, and they are never left without something to listen to.
For a few years, Swift released many albums with a more melancholy feel and deeper, cryptic lyrics. After many albums, people started complaining that she was not happy enough.

They ended up getting engaged in August of 2025. The relationship caused her album “The Life of a Showgirl” to be arguably one of the happiest she has ever written. Critics argued that her lyrics were now too cringy and that there was not enough structure. But, but didn’t they just complain about her music being too sad?
In the end, all of these criticisms would not be as severe if Swift were a male. She even has a song titled “The Man,” which explains how easy her career would be if she were a man. Female artists face more criticism than males.
Despite the critics, Swift continues to break through the gender barriers of her career and breaks new records every day. She doesn’t let the standards that the world has set for women affect her.
