Business Behind the Scenes trip recaps

The second trip for the recently established Business Behind the Scenes (BBTS) program occurred on Feb 4, 2026. Students traveled to Great Wolf Lodge to meet the managers and coordinators of the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau.

When the students arrived, they were greeted with a buffet of croissants, yogurt, fruit, and drinks for a delicious breakfast while listening to the people speak about their jobs.

The group of students watched a video explaining what the Pocono Television Network (PTN) is and how it works behind the scenes. There is a lot more to their videos that happens off-screen, such as timelines for filming, finding newsworthy events, people to interview, etc.

After watching the video, a panel was opened for questions about anything relating to the business and its inner workings.

Marianne Rustad, the Education and Community Coordinator with the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau, commented that “[The Pocono Visitor’s Bureau is] the premier destination marketing bureau for the Pocono Mountains, and we keep people coming to the area to stimulate the economy and the businesses, and keep tourism thriving in the Poconos.”

Rustard also spoke of the Pocono ambassador program, which “is designed to educate and inform all ages, whether visitors or student or community members, and highlighting Pocono television network.”

As a nice incentive for the students to consider working with the visitor’s bureau in the future, Rustad and her coworkers even led the students through an interactive certification program that the company offers on its website: Poconomountains.com

At the end of the visit, the students were informed that because of their participation during the walkthrough of the program, they were all certified as ambassadors to the bureau.

The third destination for BBTS was Barley Creek Brewing Company on February 10. Students arrived there at 8:43 a.m., where they were greeted by owner Trip Ruvane.

Once inside, students were split into three groups. They were given a tour of the kitchen, where they learned about what food was produced and the equipment. They briefly saw the dishwashing room before they made their way downstairs to the brewing basement, filled with brewing machines and equipment.

Right after, they had been taken to the main bar, which was located at the front entrance of the restaurant.

The tour guide, an employee of the restaurant, explained Barley Creek’s eco-friendliness. The patio was made from recycled trees cut down to make way for people to arrive at the restaurant. Any leftover materials from the distillery are sent to local farms.

As students concluded their tour, they returned to the side entrance. A video had been played for the students, which went in-depth with Ruvane’s life and the creation of his business.

Trip Ruvane and his co-workers had started the panel question for students to learn more about him and his business.

This officially concluded the third field trip for Business Behind the Scenes. The program’s next trip is going to be to Northampton Community College on March 12, 2026.
