Presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. ARRESTDetails MapOn January 16th, 2026 at approximately 8:40am. Officers of The Pocono Township Police Department were alerted by PSP Stroudsburg to be on the lookout for a 2016 Nissan Frontier that had been stolen from the driveway of an address in Cresco.
At approximately 9:15am an officer spotted the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of Chohan's BP at the intersection of routes 611 and 715. The driver fled the parking lot and led that officer on a short vehicle pursuit followed by a foot pursuit into the yard of a house on Route 715 north. During the pursuit the male actor entered the rear covered porch of a residence and attempted to break into the main living space. One of the homeowners was inside the home at the time. Moments later officers apprehended the male actor, who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, without incident.
The actor was identified as John Hughes III a 32 year old male from Stroudsburg PA. Hughes was positively identified as the male who stole the vehicle through video surveillance. Hughes also possessed an active warrant for a parole violation out of Waymart PA.
Hughes was taken to Monroe County Correctional Facility to await arraignment on the charges of Burglary of an occupied structure (F1), Receiving stolen property (F3), Criminal trespassing (F3), Fleeing and eluding (F3), Evading arrest or detention on foot (F3), Flight to avoid apprehension (F3), Resisting arrest (M2), Driving under the influence of narcotics (M), and Driving while operating privilege is suspended (S).
