East Stroudsburg Borough is a vibrant, historically rooted municipality in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, nestled in the Pocono Mountains and directly adjacent to its sister borough, Stroudsburg. Though often paired with Stroudsburg in regional identity, East Stroudsburg has its own distinct character—shaped by education, transportation, and a rich colonial past.
East Stroudsburg is often seen as the educational and cultural anchor of Monroe County. Its blend of historic charm, university life, and proximity to outdoor recreation makes it a dynamic hub for both residents and visitors. The borough’s evolution—from colonial outpost to railroad town to college borough—reflects the layered history of the Pocono region.
The Borough of East Stroudsburg enacted a short term rental ordinance in 2021. The ordinance requires licensing and a list of requirements including the use of a private trash hauler. Zoning regulations limit the licenses to Commercial and Industrial areas, properties in residential areas will need a variance. Details can be found in the East Stroudsburg STR Ordinance. EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It is that time of year when the Pocono Mountains Community Fundraiser supports non-profits doing life-changing work in Monroe County.
The event, now in its 22nd year, has raised more than $3 million for our neighbors in need. This year, four organizations were selected to receive funding.

Two students from East Stroudsburg University completed internships in the nation’s capital over the summer. They served as interns through the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, a nonprofit organization that provides internships and seminars to college students interested in learning more about government, politics, and how public policy is shaped.

STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is facing several charges Wednesday night after an hours-long standoff ended in Stroud Township.
The Stroud Area Regional Police Department says they were called to Walnut Grove Road in Stroud Township around 11:35 a.m. for a man reportedly destroying the Walnut Grove community sign with a hammer.
When officers arrived on scene, they identified the man as 29-year-old Alexander Ball from East Stroudsburg, who lived in the community.

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE CO. (WOLF) — Police in the Poconos arrested two men after a search warrant led to the discovery of a multitude of drugs and firearms in a residence, according to police.
