Rumored Skittles ban takes media by storm

We’ve all heard Skittle’s slogan, “Taste the Rainbow”, but a recent law passed in California seems to threaten these colorful candies.  Named The California Food Safety Act, but recently dubbed “The Skittles Ban”, California’s new law bans food additives found commonly in candies and sodas. The nickname comes from an earlier draft of the bill that banned titanium dioxide which is found in the popular candy. However, the latest bill revisions have removed titanium dioxide from the banned list.  So what does this mean for the future of Skittles? In short– nothing.  Skittles will not be affected by this act at all. The rumor began with miscommunications online and though it spread fast, it is nothing but false news.

Turkeys Needed To Help Struggling Veterans

Hundreds of frozen turkeys are desperately needed to ensure local heroes have a happy Thanksgiving. Donations are down for the Valor Clinic Foundation’s annual holiday meal distribution. Volunteers inside the new Valor Clinic Foundation Food Pantry at the former Camp Trexler Cub Scout Dining Hall in Jonas are busy preparing boxes to be delivered to struggling veterans just in time for Thanksgiving dinner. They have the potatoes, stuffing and all of the fixings. But the centerpieces for about half of the over 500 holiday meals are missing along with a favorite breakfast food. Valor Clinic Foundation Holiday Meal Coordinator Susan Schwarz says, "We’re in pretty good shape with the nonperishables but the perishable items, we’re still in need of. We probably need about 250 more turkeys and 250 pounds of bacon."

Avid Boats Invests Nearly $8M With Monroe County, MS Expansion - Business Facilities

Avid Boats plans to invest nearly $8 million into its Monroe County, Mississippi, facility, creating 50 jobs in the process.

Sign the Petition to Scale Back the Expansion of I-80 (Rep. Tarah Probst)

Stroudsburg is the only town in Pennsylvania that is dissected by Interstate 80. The highway literally runs through the center of town, cutting Stroudsburg and South Stroudsburg in two.PennDOT's proposal to expand I-80 will devastate the area, negatively impact the community, encroach on our pristine creek, streams and exceptional value watercourse, and require earthmoving activities (relocating a creek.) It will crush Stroudsburg Borough, the Monroe County seat, and will wreak havoc on local businesses, cutting off accessibility to our thriving downtown Main Street. Two major hospitals, emergency services and fire companies will have dangerous response times due to the closure of two exits. Constant Main Street gridlock will be inevitable due to the closing of these exits and South Stroudsburg will be cut off with huge soundwalls.

Environmental Assessment: I-80 Reconstruction Project

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 5-0, in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) document in accordance with 23 CFR § 771, and the National Environmental Policy Act.The EA considers improvements to I-80 from Interchange 303 (PA 611/North 9th Street) to Brodhead Creek, including Interchange 304 (US 209), Interchange 305 (BUS 209/SR 2012/West Main Street), Interchange 306 (SR 2004/Dreher Avenue), and Interchange 307 (PA 611/Park Avenue and PA 191/Broad Street). The preferred alternative meets the project needs to improve safety, reduce congestion and alleviate access and mobility concerns, while minimizing environmental impacts and addressing public and agency feedback.Source:https://www.i80project.com/environmental-assessment-ea/
