The proposal to construct a Data Center beside The Thomas Darling Nature Preserve in Blakeslee-PA, represents a reckless disregard for one of the Poconos most fragile and irreplaceable eco-systems. This preserve is not just a patch of land, as thought by the Owners of Tarheel Quarry, but a living sanctuary that is home to all forms of wildlife including the Endangered Northern Flying Squirrel, a species already pushed to the brink by habitat loss with the Warehouse Building Craze (That still stands empty) of 4 years ago. The noise, water consumption, light pollution, and generated heat by a massive data center would shatter the delicate balance of this environment, drive away wildlife by degrading the wetlands which sustains them. Once this habitat is disturbed it cannot be replaced or duplicated.

This project is being sold as progress, but progress that destroys what cannot be replaced is nothing more than short-sighted greed. The Thomas Darling Preserve is a Public Trust, protected for the benefit of future generations and the many species that depend on it. To place an Industrial Complex at its doorstep is to grossly betray that trust. The Northern Flying Squirrel cannot speak for itself, but its very survival depends on decisions made now. Every felled tree, every paved acre, every watt of waste heat and every gallon of recycled water will echo through this delicate eco-system for decades.

All who value clean air, living forests, and the integrity of The Poconos natural heritage must band together. Attend the Public Meeting on April 16th at Kalahari Resort and make your voice heard. Demand that local officials reject this outrageously destructive proposal and uphold their sworn duty to protect The Thomas Darling Preserve. The future of The Northern Flying Squirrel and The Soul of Our Pocono Community depends on it.
