Budget Update: Rainy Day Funds Aren’t for Everyday Use
For the second time, the Senate has approved a state budget that respects taxpayers, protects our Commonwealth’s financial stability, and ensures counties, school districts, and other government partners receive the funding they need. I remain on 24-hour call to return to Harrisburg as final negotiations continue between the House, Senate, and the Governor.
The amended budget bill, Senate Bill 160, totals $47.9 billion. This is a responsible spending level that keeps Pennsylvania on sound fiscal footing and helps preserve our strong credit rating. As part of leading by example, this plan includes a 5% spending reduction for the General Assembly.

The night of Friday, October 24, Stroudsburg clinched a spot in the District XI 6A Playoffs as the seventh seed. Stroudsburg ended their regular season with a record of 5-5, falling to Pleasant Valley 6-10 to close out. Stroudsburg’s’ offense struggled to get anything going, seeing their star running back, Keyen Johnson, ’27, only rush for 78 yards in 21 attempts, while Jack Mitchell, ’27, went 14 for 22 passing for 91 yards and an interception.
Stroudsburg plays against the undefeated Parkland Trojans next, a game that will be an uphill battle. Entering as huge underdogs, the Mountaineers will have to be on fire to keep this game close. Johnson currently has 1,310 yards rushing with 12 touchdowns, and he seems to be the key to the offense.

The Story Within the Spins
You hear the music, you watch the intricate steps, but have you noticed the rifles flying? Have you seen the flags twirling on the field? The color guard is also part of the marching band, and they are a vital part of the show.
If you haven’t noticed already, the color guard puts in lots of effort into what they do as well, whether it’s dancing, flag twirling, or rifle throwing. They create the visuals to make the show feel more alive and give it more character.
“Color Guard actually works 10 months out of the year. We take June and December off. During January through May, we are working on honing and learning new skills and training new members,” Says Patti Weiss, Color Guard director. “When we come back in July, we are hitting the ground running, though most of the time we work without music, which makes it challenging. Much of this year’s show was written, taught, and cleaned on the fly.”
