Allen High School faced bomb threat
Allen High School experienced a bomb threat earlier this week on Monday, September 29. According to school officials, this threat was the latest of many others.
Two notes were found in the school building indicating the impending detonation of a bomb.
This took place at 9:15 a.m., before that day had truly begun, leading to an early dismissal at 10:45 a.m., only 30-minute after.
Reinforcements were called following the student and staff dismissal to thoroughly check the building for any sign of a potential bomb. These forces were made up of Allentown’s local firefighters and police, Lehigh Valley International Airport Security, Lehigh County Sheriff’s Department, and canine’s able to smell bombs.
After conducting this search for hours, the building was cleared in the afternoon, having shown no sign of explosive material or bombs.
More Than Music
Up in the sky you see them, those radiant Friday night lights that light up the field. The crowd is electric; the game so far has been exhilarating; everyone is glued to their seats.
We take the field and feel the rush of being out on that green landscape. The moment hits as we line up for the big moment.
The crowd goes silent, and we start to play. Every step paints a picture for the crowd to see from above.
These are our Friday Night lights, too; We are the Stroudsburg High School marching band, and these are our views.
Despite the crowds’ encouraging cheering, the bright lights shining down on us can be slightly intimidating, causing feelings of both stress and excitement.
“My initial feeling going onto the field is excitement, but focused. I know I have to get my head into the zone,” says Tristan Gottardi, ‘27, “there is so much to remember and do right that you can’t get distracted by the crowd and the lights.”

Troiani-Sweeney Endowed Fund Lecture Series Continues on October 30 with Presentation on Advancing Alzheimer’s Care
Yvonne Troiani-Sweeney ’78 always had passion for the well-being of her patients. She dedicated her life to her nursing career that spanned 30 years after earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing from East Stroudsburg University and a graduate degree in nursing from Villanova. Her colleagues and patients became her second family. Nursing led her to leadership roles at what is now the Lehigh Valley Health Network, Franklin Square Hospital in Maryland, Albert Einstein Medical Center, and the Geisinger Health System. Wherever her occupation led her, she became an inspiration to others for the incredible level of care she delivered every day.
All of that changed for Sweeney and her family when she was diagnosed with a form of early onset dementia called posterior cortical atrophy. She set aside her career and focused her energy on the daily challenges she faced, alongside her loving husband, Chris, and her two sons, Christopher III and Michael.
It's apple picking time at Heckman Orchards
EFFORT, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — If you're ready to add a little crunch and taste of fall to your weekend plans, look no further.
28/22's Sydney Kostus has more on how apple picking season is back at one local orchard in the Poconos.
The grinding sound of machinery echoes on the grounds of Heckman Orchards in Effort on Thursday. The loud sound is all worth it to make fresh and crisp apple cider.
“Today we’re going to do roughly around a thousand gallons of cider,” explained Mark Heckman, co-owner of Heckman Orchards.
The family-owned farm has been making its famous cider for more than 60 years, using a traditional rack and cloth system.
“To me, I still think it’s a little more labor-intensive than some of the newer systems, but I still think it makes the best cider,” said Heckman.
NHS helps out for Beautification Day
East Stroudsburg hosted a Borough Beautification Day at Dansbury Park on September 20, 2025. It’s a day when the community comes together to try to clean up the local area.
The National Honor Society (NHS) at Stroudsburg High School (SHS) offered more than 30 spots for its members to volunteer, with 29 members signed up and made a difference that day.
East Stroudsburg University (ESU) also had two of its fraternities helping out; some of them were past Stroudsburg graduates.
At the volunteering site, the mayor of East Stroudsburg, Victor A. Brozusky, gave a commencement speech and thanked everyone for coming out.
Aryanna Vidaic, ‘26, “Volunteering at the Beautification Day event was a great way for our school to help better the community.”
There were two ways to help out: either pick up trash in the park and around the area, or paint the picnic tables at the park.
