What is SHS listening to?

Intro – Have you ever been in a room full of people and a song starts playing, and suddenly,
everyone knows the words? In that moment, it doesn’t matter where people come from or what
languages they speak, everyone is connected. Music has the ability to bring people together
and bridge together cultural differences in different ways than others.

Music is a very important part of my life. Music is powerful and shows character. I can listen to
music whenever I feel sad or happy. No matter what I’m feeling, music is always there to cheer
me up. I can listen to music when I need a good cry or a stomach-hurting laugh. I use music to
keep me energized and on task when I need to be focused. – Giana Cuesto

Music serves a great purpose in my life because it helps express the mood I’m in. Whenever I
listen to partynextdoor or drake it helps me feel understood because they have songs that go
with any mood. Music motivates me when I’m feeling tired, need to calm down, and makes
happy moments way better. Another reason music serves a great purpose in my life is because
when I’m with friends I feel like it brings us together as one, even though we all have different
music tastes when certain songs come on that we all like it connects us as one. -Serenity harris

Music is very impactful to communities because it allows for people of different cultural
backgrounds to come together and connect with one another. It also allows for people to feel a
sense of inclusion because they can see that people relate to them. This connection happens
because music creates shared experiences. At concerts, festivals, and even school events,
people from different backgrounds sing the same lyrics. And in those same moments,
differences in race, language, or culture feel unimportant because everyone is focused on the
same thing.

Music.
Beyond shared events, music preserves and shares cultures across generations. Communities
use music to pass down traditions, stories, and history. When people listen to music of different
cultures, they aren’t just hearing a song, but learning about another culture’s way of life and
experiences.

Today, music spreads quickly through social media and streaming platforms, such as Spotify
and Apple Music. Songs can become popular within days. As people explore different genres of
music and languages, cultures begin to influence one another. This shows that connection leads
to creativity and growth rather than division of cultures and communities.
In a world where differences often divide us, music continues to act as a bridge between those
divisions. It reminds us that even though our backgrounds are not the same, our emotions often are. Through music and shared experiences, music proves that a connection does not require
sameness, only understanding.
